From the start, we’ve always felt that many boards were a bit boring. It was the customs—the ones with that personal touch—that really stood out at group rides. They turned heads, sparked conversations, and carried a sense of identity. With the Mach One, we wanted to do more than just blend in; we wanted to make a statement.
We’ve also always had a love for racing liveries—the bold, eye-catching graphics used on race cars to represent speed, performance, and heritage. A racing livery isn’t just decoration; it’s a symbol of a team’s spirit and passion for the sport, combining colour, branding, and design to create something unforgettable. That’s the energy we wanted for the Mach One.
The Early Days: XP3 and the Ferrari Tribute
The XP3 was where we first channeled this love of racing liveries into our boards. It wasn’t just a custom board—it was a tribute to Ferrari, with its iconic red colour scheme and attention to detail. We used high-quality automotive paints for the base and painstakingly applied vinyl decals by hand to bring the design to life. The red powder-coated front truck added a unique flair, making the overall livery pop, much like a race car on the track, and much like a Ferarri.
Reproducing this livery is challenging. We've had many people ask if we could do another and while we'd love to, right now our focus is on the production run of the 2024 Mach One. But it's always something we're keeping in mind for the future—who knows what might be possible?
The Genesis Edition: A Stealthy Experiment
In late 2023 and early 2024, we introduced the Genesis Edition—a limited run of just eleven Mach One boards. Mostly picked up by local Aussies, two headed off to California and one to Chicago, this edition featured a simple black graphic, embodying the stealth theme we’ve always wanted to explore. We wanted the Genesis boards to stand apart from all future boards, marking them as something unique in the Mach One lineup.
The challenge was finding a way to hand-apply a livery that delivered the clean, understated look we were after without the labor-intensive process of the XP3’s custom automotive paint. This was our chance to experiment with vinyl, learning how to achieve that stealth aesthetic in a more efficient way. Positioned between the loud, bold XP3 and XP6, the Genesis Edition was our moment of subtlety, offering us key insights into vinyl application that we’d carry into future designs.
XP6: A Step Toward Efficiency
With the XP6, we decided to test vinyl wraps to speed things up a bit. While faster than full-on automotive paint, it was still labor-intensive and didn't quite hold up to the high expectations we set with the XP3. The vinyl wrap was decent, but we found that automotive paint had much better durability, especially along the edges of the deck, where wear and tear tend to hit hardest.
2024 Mach One: Mastering the Hydro-Dip
When we began working on the 2024 Mach One, we initially aimed for a sleek black-to-grey gradient design through hydro-dipping. But as we tested the process, we ran into issues—the gradients weren’t translating well, and keeping everything aligned over the bends of the enclosure was more difficult than expected.
Throughout these trials, one thing became clear: we’ve always appreciated the look of carbon fibre, and we realised we could actually turn this challenge into an opportunity. Instead of hiding it, we reworked the design to make more of the carbon fibre weave visible beneath the graphic. The resulting exposed carbon fibre adds a raw, high-performance feel that perfectly complements the Mach One’s cutting-edge engineering.
Now the carbon fibre is on display. It brings depth, texture, and a premium look that reinforces the bold, daring nature of the board while staying true to the innovation and precision that Radium represents.
Where We Are Now
The latest hydro-dipped samples? They look fantastic and are holding up better than we could have hoped. They’re durable, sleek, and truly reflect the cutting-edge spirit of the Mach One. The result is not just a board that performs at the highest level, but one that looks like it belongs in the future.
We’re always refining, always exploring what’s next. The 2024 Mach One’s graphics are just one more example of how Radium isn’t afraid to push the limits, evolve, and come back stronger. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to raise the bar.
